More about your coach?

Matthias Knossalla

In full swing as a coach on the sideline

Matthias Knossalla was a professional triathlete in the middle and long distance from 2014 to 2020. Although he only started the sport at the age of 25, he became German champion as a coach in 2017 and German vice-champion as an athlete in the same year.

His greatest successes continue to include three second places at Ironman 70.3® and Challenge® races worldwide.

In 2015, the graduate sports scientist founded his company “trivolution-training”, the first German coaching company in triathlon, where a whole team of different experts work together in an interdisciplinary way.

There he coaches numerous athletes all over the world and has a large client base in the USA, Canada, Brazil and China in addition to the D-A-CH region.

Why am I being redirected to Trainingpeaks?

You buy your desired plan directly from Trainingpeaks. You will also receive your invoice from there. Then you can download it directly to your Trainingpeaks account at your preferred start date with just one click and have it with you wherever you are via the app or web platform.

Can I use the plan I bought more than once?

Yes, you can copy it and use it a second or third time.

There are 3 levels of a plan, how do I find the right one for me?

If you are unsure, you should choose the easier plan. The plans will really challenge you and I have hardly ever heard of athletes feeling underchallenged.

When does the plan start?

You choose the day, it should just be a Monday.

Where can I find help to understand everything in the plan?

On day 1 you will find a downloadable Athlete Guide which should answer all your questions. If you still have any questions, just drop me a line.

Can I upload cycling units directly to Zwift or my cycling computer?

Yes, all cycling sessions with long steady GA1 sessions are created in Workout Builder and can easily be uploaded to Zwift or your cycling computer.

Can I upload running sessions directly to Zwift or my running watch?

In all our plans we deliberately avoid creating built in running sessions. Why do we do this?

The experience of really hundreds of coaching sessions with athletes at almost all performance levels shows that a “pigeonhole thinking” develops. Almost no importance is attributed to body awareness and training sessions are

and training sessions are then simply reeled off in the built-up zones (which are also sometimes calculated down from dubious tests). This may even work for pure runners who go into training sessions fresh and into races fresh.

In triathlon, however, no one is fresh when they start running and then a pace adaptation is important, which has a lot to do with body feeling. In some cases it even went so far that athletes “took it easy” in training two days before the race in order to

to be able to “really complete their intervals in the zone on the clock” on Thursday. Since we have dispensed with the built mode, the athlete has to pay much more attention to himself and his feeling and sometimes, for example, a 6x1000m workout at 3:30 pace is at a felt subjective load of 90% and with corresponding pre-load, stress, lack of sleep, etc at 98%…. the training goal is met every time, only the general conditions are different. The built units/zones on the watch make it immensely more difficult in our experience.

Are swim sessions planned in detail?

Yes, every metre of every swim session is planned in great detail.

Do the plans include strength and mobility sessions?

Yes, athletics and specific mobility sessions are included.

How much money should I spend on a training plan?

A training plan is the best way for an athlete to continuously improve and really reach their competitive goal. It takes an incredibly long time to write good training plans by hand. These may also cost a little. Of course, there are cheap plans created with AI, but at least currently they are still light years away from those of good coaches.

Is Trainingpeaks free of charge?

Yes, you can create a free basic account and work wonderfully with the purchased plan. If you want to make changes and adjustments to the plan yourself, I recommend the paid premium account of Trainingpeaks (approx. 10$ per month).
